San Juan City, one of the major cities in the Philippines’ capital region, is now a step closer to becoming a smart, climate-resilient locality with the help of Komunidad and systems integration company GrandComm Corp.
Komunidad and GrandComm have partnered up to provide San Juan City with a multi-hazard impact-based monitoring and early warning system for its residents and stakeholders.
San Juan City is just the latest LGU to be serviced by Komunidad, which has been making a significant impact in creating climate-resilient communities and industries through its products, which include threat monitoring systems, site risk analysis, early warning alert system, and automated reports.
San Juan adds to the list of localities being served by Komunidad, which also includes the municipality of Siargao and other cities from the nation’s capital such as Manila, Taguig, Mandaluyong and Quezon City.
Komunidad is working closely with GrandComm, a team of sales professionals and expert engineers that delivers high technology end-to-end solutions, services, managing turnkey and large-scale projects. It partners with companies in the information and communications technology (ICT) and Systems Integration (SI) industry.
It already counts the state-run People’s Television, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine Navy among its clients.
Empowering San Juan City
As Komunidad’s Business Development Manager for Public Sector in the Philippines, Jerome Feliciano has seen how Komunidad has helped LGUs create more responsive and efficient disaster preparedness protocols. He noted that with automated reports and alerts, as well as real-time monitoring and assessment of different hazards, LGUs will be able to plan effectively in the event of natural disasters.
San Juan, although the smallest city in the National Capital Region with a land area of 5.94 square kilometers, is home to 21 barangays. According to the city’s website, the 2015 census showed that it has a population of over 122,000.
Feliciano pointed out that other localities in the country have their sights trained on cities from the country’s capital region, as they look to them as model LGUs with good practices. With San Juan City as the latest locality from the NCR to be serviced by Komunidad—and thus expanding the company’s foothold in Metro Manila—he said they hope to reach out to more cities and towns.
“We want to make sure that their visions are aligned with what we are doing: to disseminate risk information, and monitor and assess natural hazards,” Feliciano said.
Through Komunidad and GrandComm., he explained that barangays, residents, and other stakeholders can receive early warning alerts. In turn, this results in better coordination and also educates communities, especially those at risk, about preparedness measures.
