Komunidad Continues Discussions on Climate Resilience in Siargao

As Siargao Island steadily rebuilds its communities following the ravages of super typhoon Odette, Komunidad Global sets up an avenue to sustain conversations on climate resilience and sustainability among affected stakeholders.

Komunidad will host Resilient Siargao: Bridging Resilience and Tourism through Early Warnings, following the company’s Xchange forum, on October 24 in Kawa Resort, Siargao Island. It aims to promote climate resilience decision-support tools as Siargao takes on the road to sustainable tourism recovery.

The event aims to gather local and national government officials, tourism industry stakeholders, community leaders and members, environment non-government organizations, researchers and the academe, and technology providers and innovators.

The KomunidadXchange on the island is an offshoot of the company’s ongoing Resilient-Siargao Project, where stakeholders were given access to the Climate Action Center and given training to maximize its features to refine their disaster preparedness and mitigation protocols.

By hosting this forum, Komunidad aims to raise awareness about the significance and benefits of an Early Warning System for building climate resilience and sustainable tourism. It will also serve as a venue to share the gains of Siargao in its journey towards rebuilding and sustainable tourism, more than a year after Odette.

While the audience may be diverse, they are united in their mission to build a climate-resilient Siargao. With the stage set, Komunidad also aims to foster collaboration among relevant stakeholders to integrate decision support tools in the island province’s recovery efforts.

Experts are expected to share their insights on climate resilience, early warning decision support tools, and sustainable tourism practices. The discussion will open up doors to further the discussion of climate resilience on Siargao Island.

It will also feature the recovery story of Siargao as it regains its footing as the sought-after tourist and surfing destination in the country.

Through the event, Komunidad will also showcase its decision-support tools and solutions that have been helping nine Siargao municipalities. Participants will also be given a chance to explore these tools.

Ultimately, KomunidadXchange Resilient Siargao aims to foster deeper collaboration among stakeholders so they can take a more definitive step towards climate action.
