The local government of Muntinlupa City is continuing its pioneering climate action policies with its new partnership with Komunidad Global.
The city government of Muntinlupa has recently inked an agreement with Komunidad for the procurement of its multi-hazard impact-based monitoring and early warning system, software that has been helping industries, communities and other LGUs with disaster risk reduction policies.
By selecting Komunidad as the LGU’s new partner, Muntinlupa is adding a new component to its already laudable climate change policies that have recently been recognized on the international stage.
In November 2023, Muntinlupa City was recognized in the City Climate Action Award category by CityNet at the end of the 43rd Executive Committee Meeting in Suwon City, South Korea.
Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon has said, in a news release by the city’s public information office, that their LGU has been among pioneers in institutionalizing Energy Efficiency and Conservation by enacting its own Local Energy Code and developing a Local Energy Efficiency Plan.
Muntinlupa is part of CityNet, a global network of cities working for sustainable development. Its recent executive meeting sought to discuss the pressing concerns of housing, urban development and climate change in the Asia Pacific region.
With its agreement with Komunidad, Muntinlupa City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officers can access a community portal with multi-location risk analysis, which will feature real-time observations, weather forecasts, and warning maps on a national-, local- and barangay-scale.
Another part of the agreement package is automated reporting covering pre-disaster risk analysis, daily weather risk analysis, and a special custom report. The LGU is also entitled to early warning alerts on rain, wind, temperature, mosquito activity, lightning strikes and dangerous thunderstorms.
Komunidad will also prepare two animated weather broadcasting videos daily that the Muntinlupa LGU can share on their social channels. These videos can show weather observations, weather forecasts, the PAGASA radar, earthquakes, air quality and even mosquito activity.
Komunidad will also hold several trainings on the basics of data, weather and the use of the application system for city officers.
