Komunidad to support Ateneo’s climate action projects

Climate tech startup Komunidad will lend its expertise in climate action projects to the Ateneo de Manila University to widen the reach of the #EarlyWarningsForAll movement, including young leaders from the university.

Komunidad and ADMU, represented by the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS), on August 21 inked a Memorandum of Understanding on projects to combat climate change and enhance sustainability principles and practices within the Ateneo community and beyond.

Komunidad Chief Executive Officer Felix Ayque and ADMU Vice President for Mission Integration Dr. Benjamin Gerardo Tolosa, Jr. led the signing of the MOU. They were joined by Komunidad Chief Operations Officer Allister Ayque, Chief Product Officer Jed Llanes, Climate Action Suite Product Manager Marela Ann Codico, and AIS Director Dr. Emmanuel Delocado.

The partnership will span two years starting September 1, 2024 and will cover environmental and climate-related initiatives, particularly benefiting Ateneo-associated programs and students.

This new deal aligns with the shared belief of Komunidad and Ateneo in the potential of collective action towards sustainability. It also hopes to instill social responsibility among Ateneo students, noting that many young leaders are taking up space and standing at the forefront of the fight against climate change.

Llanes said: “We believe that this partnership will bear a positive impact within the sustainability space in the country.”

Delocado meanwhile expressed excitement on the start of the meaningful collaboration between Ateneo and Komunidad. “Many thanks for this exciting opportunity, and we are excited to see this partnership fly,” he added.

As the Philippines remains on top of the list of climate vulnerable countries in the world, we need more and more people to join us in our campaign for a more sustainable future—and Komunidad is excited to see the ripple effect that Ateneo students and leaders will make in their own communities.
