Komunidad to lend expertise in CRS and USAID’s Climate Resilient Cities project
Komunidad Global has been selected to assist the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in implementing the Climate Resilient Cities (CRC) project supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to address the vulnerability of Philippine cities to climate change.
Komunidad will serve as a technology consultant in the CRC project that is designed to empower local government units, as well as non-governmental organizations, to adapt to and address the impacts of climate change. The project aims to increase LGUs’ and organizations’ access to climate financing and tools to strengthen their climate resilience and, in turn, help contribute to their economic and social development.
The CRC project, officially announced in March 2022, is a five-year initiative and is now in its third year of implementation.
According to a brief from USAID, the CRC Project “embodies a consultative and collaborative approach for advancing benchmarks for urban climate resilience in the Philippines.”
As a technology consultant, Komunidad will develop early warning systems for the cities of Batangas, Borongan, Cotabato, and Zamboanga. This will be done through the comprehensive Climate Action Suite software, which has been helping many localities and industries in crafting more climate-resilient strategies. Additionally, Komunidad will install advanced automated weather stations to further capacitate the cities involved in the project.
Empowering Philippine cities and municipalities to improve their climate resilience is not new to Komunidad. The climate tech start-up has been engaged with several local government units, both in the National Capital Region and coastal communities like Siargao, in their disaster risk reduction and management efforts, as well as in helping them craft more climate-resilient policies.
This opportunity further widens Komunidad’s reach to involve more communities in its #EarlyWarningsForAll movement.
The program is aligned with the Philippines’ National Climate Change Action Plan, Nationally Determined Contributions, and National Change and Disaster Risk Management Roadmap. It also contributes to the fulfillment of the government of the United States’ goal to widen the discussions of climate change across the globe. The project also receives support from the government of the Republic of Korea, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
